Gail Bush

 GAIL BUSH, PH.D., is a proud graduate of the Chicago Public Schools, a professor of education, director of the school library program, and director of the Center for Teaching through Children’s Books at National Louis University in Chicago, Illinois. Gail’s academic background includes a bachelor’s degree in anthropology, master’s degree in library science, and doctorate in educational psychology. A frequent speaker, Gail publishes in education and library journals. The School Buddy System: The Practice of Collaboration was published by ALA Editions in 2003 and Every Student Reads: Collaboration and Reading to Learn followed in 2005. Recent publications include Civic Engagement, Social Justice and Equity (2009; edited volume) and Tales Out of the School Library: Developing Professional Dispositions (2010; co-authored with Dr. Jami Jones).

Stephen Cogil Casari

STEPHEN COGIL CASARI has been in the book business since 1970. He started his career as a bookseller at The Old Corner Bookstore in Boston and from there moved back to his hometown in Denver to start and operate The Tattered Cover Bookstore. After selling the store in the mid-70s, he went on to become the first Educational Director of the American Booksellers Association. He finally ended up in his “adopted hometown” of Chicago, where he ran and later owned the Book Market—22 stores in five Midwestern states. He and his partners sold the stores in the 80s to the Walden Book Company and Steve began a new career as a retail consultant to the book business, as well as a literary agent. Steve now works as a consultant to art museums around the country focusing on publications and curatorial writing.

Joseph Drogos

JOSEPH DROGOS  is a Chicago teacher and writer. He earned his MA in the humanities from the University of Chicago, and his BA in English from Georgetown University. He writes the Chicago literature and culture blog and column “The Silver- Colored Yesterday” for MAKE magazine, and teaches the humanities at the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools. He’s taught English, Latin and the humanities at col- lege prep schools across the country and at Malcolm X College, and has also worked as a newspaper reporter in Chicago’s southwest suburbs. He won awards from the Northern Illinois Newspaper Association and the Chicago Headline Club for his community newspaper writing.
